Multi Vehicle MVA and Pedestrian MVA

On August 11, 2008

Monday was a busy night for Gloucester Township EMS Alliance. At approximately 1800 hours GTEMS, along with several township fire companies responded to an MVA on Route 42 Southbound at mile 10.5 with possible entrapment. The accident involved 3 vehicles including a NJ Transit bus. Along with the initial dispatch of 2 BLS units, 80-01 requested an additional 3 BLS units.

As BLS units continued to triage patients it became apparent that several more BLS units would be needed. 80-01 requested 5 more BLS units. The decision was then made to bus the remaining patients with minor injuries to nearby Highland High School where a BLS staging area was set up by Station 84 personnel in an effort to open the highway back up. From Highland an additional 5 BLS units were requested.

The County EMS Task Force was dispatched with BLS units from as far as Gloucester City responding. A total of 18 patients were transported to nearby hospitals. Luckily no one was seriously injured in this crash. Chief Eden would like to thank all the agencies which assisted in this incident.
